Irvine, Calif.- Great Park announces the opening of its latest art exhibition at the Great Park Gallery: 52nd Street: Jazz and the Photography of William Gottlieb.

The exhibition runs Sunday, January 30–Sunday, May 1, and will be accompanied by Jammin' in the Palm Court, a three-part live jazz series. 52nd Street: Jazz and the Photography of William Gottlieb

Manhattan's 52nd Street formed a hub of musical creativity in the years immediately following World War II. It was here where legacies were created giving recognition to musicians such as Dizzy Gillespie, Thelonious Monk, Ella Fitzgerald, and other emerging jazz geniuses of the era. 52nd Street: Jazz and the Photography of William Gottlieb will feature photographs and rare documents archiving this pivotal and exciting moment in American culture, captured by photographer and columnist William Gottlieb.

Jammin' in the Palm Court

In support of 52nd Street: Jazz and the Photography of William Gottlieb, the Great Park Palm Court Arts Complex presents a three-part live jazz series, Jammin' in the Palm Court. Inspired by the 1944 jazz film "Jammin' the Blues," Jammin' in the Palm Court highlights the legacies and influences of musicians such as Dizzy Gillespie, Thelonious Monk, Ella Fitzgerald, and other brilliant jazz artists. Bring folding chairs and blankets for seating around the Palm Court; no advance registration is needed for these free events.

Jammin' in the Palm Court will take place on the following dates and times:

  • Sunday, February 13, 1–3 p.m.
  • Sunday, March 13, 1–3 p.m.
  • Sunday, April 10, 1–3 p.m.

Great Park is located at 8000 Great Park Blvd., in Irvine. Great Park Gallery hours are Thursdays and Fridays, noon–4 p.m., and Saturdays and Sundays, 10 a.m.–4 p.m.
