Clean Lake Forest to boost Community Clean-up Project January 29

Community Clean-up Project Set for Jan. 29

Lake Forest, Calif.- The City of Lake Forest, Caltrans, and CR&R are teaming up for Orange County's first "Clean California Dump Day" event with a bulky-item pickup and neighborhood cleanup on Saturday, January 29.

Clean California was established through Gov. Gavin Newsom's $1.1 billion, multiyear clean-up initiative that aims to remove trash and engage communities to restore roadsides and pride in public spaces.

Litter and abandoned items

A grass roots group, Clean Lake Forest, will supply volunteers who will walk the neighborhoods and parks around southwest Lake Forest and pick up litter, while bulky items will be accepted at a drop-off at 24551 Raymond Way.

Southwest Lake Forest residents mentioned litter and abandoned items as items of concern during a recent City survey. Previous Clean Lake Forest events have attracted more than 100 volunteers.

The City's trash hauler, CR&R, is donating large bins for the collected trash and bulky items that residents drop off. The event is scheduled for the last Saturday of the month because that's when people typically move, and officials find more items such as furniture and mattresses abandoned in the public right-of-way.

Caltrans

Caltrans will cover the cost of disposing the items in the local landfill under the Clean California initiative.

Saturday's event will run from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Items such as mattresses, chairs, couches, tables, desks, children's toys and excess green waste will be accepted. No hazardous waste or e-waste (anything with a circuit board or battery) will be accepted.

See www.lakeforestca.gov/cleanlakeforest for more information on the volunteer effort and https://cleancalifornia.dot.ca.gov/ for more information on Gov. Newsom's initiative.
